'The Barn' is a (vegetarian) vegan B&B/guest house in the beautiful New Forest, Hampshire. Situated within the New Forest National Park, the house is an Edwardian 'Arts and Crafts Movement' property which we have fully refurbished since moving in during 2001. It is full of character and the occasional eccentricity..... We offer our guests a restful stay with easy access for walking, cycling and visits to the south coast. Southampton is only 5 miles away and 'The Barn' can easily be reached by road and rail. Nearby there is a range of facilities including a Post Office, newsagent, a Co-op convenience shop, three pubs and a wonderful organic farm shop. Although Ashurst couldn't perhaps be described as a typical 'sleepy Forest village' its location makes it ideal for exploring all that this magnificent area has to offer. Our guests can opt for three course evening meals, with menus tailored to meet individual preferences. And you can relax knowing that none of the food we provide contains any animal products. Voted 'Best Vegan Accommodation 2008' by the Vegan Society Sandra and Richard Barnett established 'The Barn' in 2004 to provide friendly accommodation with an environmental perspective specifically for vegans and vegetarians. Discounted B&B prices are available for those arriving by public transport or bike (10% for stays of two nights or more). "The Barn is one of the greenest places to stay......" - Viva! Our business ethics and practice was recognised by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Sustainable Business Partnership and we were finalists for a Sustainable Business Award 2007. We prefer an informal and easy-going approach with personalised service to ensure that you have an enjoyable break away from home. Please note that, regrettably, we do not have facilities for children or pets to stay. We have plenty of off road parking and secure, under cover, cycle storage. And, by the way, the house has been called 'The Barn' since it was built (c. 1910)....... What our guests say about us Read Richard's Veggie Blog Richard contributes to The Vegan Culinary Experience
