Aerial shot of The Barn showing garden, solar panelsetc  We produce electricity and hot water using solar power      We have secure, under cover bike storage         No chintz! Proud to be chintz free! The house has a WiFi network

We have two en-suite rooms (one double - 'Rufus' and one twin 'Fritham).  Both are equipped with Digital TV and facilities for making hot drinks.  We provide guests with  soya milk as well as a variety of teas and herbal infusions.  And we have recently added the use of a sitting room and conservatory for our guests.  The selection of pictures below will, hopefully, give you an idea of our rooms and facilities........

The house was built in around 1912 and has recently been fully refurbished while retaining its original character and features.  A guiding principle in carrying out the work and setting up 'The Barn' has been to limit our 'carbon footprint' .  With this in mind we have installed energy efficient products (boiler, double glazing, cavity wall insulation and lighting).  We also use environmentally friendly cleaning and washing products.  We are especially pleased with our range of ENJO cleaning products - these use fibre technology to dramatically reduce the need for chemicals and detergents and minimise water usage at the same time.

All our bed linen and towels are now (as of October 08) made from unbleached organic cotton.

In March 2006 we had a photovoltaic (pv) system installed.  Over the year the system now gives us all the electricity we use and we have a solar powered system for hot water that works well in the summer months.  All our electricity comes from renewable sources thanks to the pv system and Npower's 'Juice' programme.    Our calculations suggest that, despite the size of the house and the heavy use it gets, we produce less than a third of the average UK household weight of carbon emissions.

The Barn

As you can see we always have blue skies here!

In warmer weather you can eat al fresco in the garden..............

Please note, particularly for any allergy sufferers, we have a cat, Freya (who doesn't generally mix with guests unless invited but if you're strongly allergic to cat fur......) and three recently rescued dogs.  Juno, a chunky, lovable bull breed mix puppy, Floss, a Deerhound/Gordon Setter cross, and Arthur, apparently a Bull Terrier/Poodle cross (tho' we don't think that's quite right - definitely Bull Terrier but not sure about the rest....)

Three little piggies begging for a bit of vegan sausage!

We have wireless Broadband Internet availability throughout the house for any guests with WiFi enabled laptops etc.
