The house was built in around 1912 and has recently been fully refurbished while retaining its original character and features.  A guiding principle in carrying out the work and setting up 'The Barn' has been to limit our 'carbon footprint' .  With this in mind we have installed energy efficient products (boiler, double glazing, cavity wall insulation and lighting).  We also use environmentally friendly cleaning and washing products.  We are especially pleased with our recently acquired range of ENJO cleaning products - these use fibre technology to dramatically reduce the need for chemicals and detergents and minimise water usage at the same time.

In March 2006 we had a photovoltaic (pv) system installed.  The system gives us about 90% the electricity we use  and we have a 100% solar powered system for hot water that works well in the summer months.  All our electricity comes from renewable sources thanks to the pv system and Npower's 'Juice' programme.    Our calculations suggest that, despite the size of the house and the heavy use it gets, we produce less than a third of the average UK household weight of carbon emissions.

We currently have two double rooms.  

'Rufus' has a double bed.  The large en suite has a bath with shower:

Both rooms are equipped with a Digital TV and facilities for making hot drinks.  We provide guests with a choice of  soya or dairy milk as well as a variety of teas and herbal infusions.  

There is a large dining room for guests and this has armchairs, a music system and even a piano if you feel like entertaining the household!  There have been many interesting discussions around the communal dining table while our guests tuck into their meals.....

As you would expect we have a no smoking policy throughout the house.

Please note, particularly for any allergy sufferers, we have two cats and two dogs.

We have wireless Broadband Internet availability throughout the house for any guests with WiFi enabled laptops etc.
